I lost about 140-150lbs with the help of DDR and a weight bench.
But before I found DDR I tried walking and a weight bench and I only lost 20lbs, then after DDR it melted off in under a year.
So the main factor of my weight loss is the intensive cardio workout that is DDR.
Hi, my name is Matt Keene and I lost 150 some pounds playing Dance Dance Revolution, and I lost a good 100 pounds of it in under a year and that's after I found DDR. Dance Dance is the only way I think I could have done it to be honest, so here's my story.
I've been overweight to obese all my life. I have no clue why, I know it's not because of some emotional gap or anything but I guess I just really liked junk food and never really moved or did anything active.
I was so out of shape that I remember losing my breath walking a single block. It was horrible and I knew that after about 18 years of being like this it was time to change. So after thinking of what to do and coming up with nothing I turned to some friends.
My friends, who I talked about it the most with, were both overweight and we all wanted to lose it. So we decided to make a wager, we would all go in 10 bucks on a pool type thing, and the first one to lose 30lbs would win it. Well,...that idea never really went through cause we never got together again to like make contracts and pay up.
However, me and Chris, one of the guys in the wager, went on with the lose 30lbs thing anyway. He told me about eating under 1500 calories a day and working out and stuff. Well, that was hard but I tried anyway, I didn't have a gym or vitamin pills like he did but idid have a weight bench and motivation enough to walk like 3 miles a night.
This all took place about mid August of 2002, and by December I lost 40lbs. I was so happy, but I still wanted to lose lots more weight, and do it fast.
This is when DDR comes into the equation. My friend Joey came back home from the Airforce around mid-late January of 2003. Me and him always played video games and stuff together so he started telling me about this dancing game.
I pretty much said that's stupid and didn't' want to try it cause I was afraid I'd look dumb. Well, he gave me his home version of Konamix and that was encouraging.
I bought a soft pad and hooked it all up and it was incredibly fun. So around the second week in which Joey was here, we decided to go up to the mall and play.
That's when it all kinda clicked, I remember playing this game so much that I was sweating through my shirt and I didn't even notice, I was having so much fun playing this that I didn't realize I was getting tired.
That's when I knew, if I did this like almost everyday, not only will I be having fun and getting good at something that draws a crowd, I'd also be losing weight!!! It was win win!!
So I went to the arcade nearly everyday and played the home version lots. I played around 3 hours a day total. This was all on light and standard difficulty. During this period of like 4 months I lost about 45lbs. So I thought about it, if I lost 45lbs in a little under 4 months playing DDR, doing light work outs 4-5 times a week with weights, and trying to eat under 1500 calories a day.
Yet in 5 months I only lost 40...well, DDR was the key! The weight was nearly melting off and I wasn't even playing on Heavy difficulty yet!? This was a big moral boost!
Well, time went on and I stuck to just playing songs on Heavy at the arcade cause my regular soft pad wasn't cutting it anymore. My nightly work outs got longer and I added more weights and because of the added stamina I've earned from playing DDR, I could play it like 3 hours a day on straight heavy. So by the mid August of 2003, I lost a total of like 140lbs!!!!
I was shopping in the normal parts of the store and I wasn't shy about trying stuff on anymore. I liked wearing tight clothes cause of the cool muscles I got from DDR and my weight bench!
My parents and friends were blown away, some of them literally didn't recognize me. I could also eat what I wanted too now cause I was skinny enough and I could just dance it off if I got worried.
Now, it's January 2004 and I've balanced my weight out at around 194-206, it fluctuates week to week I guess, I don't weigh myself anymore
All of this was thanks to DDR. Without it, I don't know where I'd be, probably in the 400's, cause I maxed out at around 350 pounds. My total weight lost to date is One Hudred and Fifty One pounds....151!!!!!!
I'm so glad I found this and if I can do it, anyone can.
Take it from someone who's been there, you can change yourself to how you want to be and have fun doing it. So, Thanks for reading my story. Good luck to anyone who's trying! You can do it!!! (source: GetUpAndMove.com)
